Similes

I'm reading Philip Yancey's Reaching for the Invisible God and enjoying its beautiful language. Observing how poor people tend to accept God more readily than rich people do, Yancey writes:

Grace, like water, flows to the lowest part.

Although it's not an explanation, it's a nice description of 'grace' using a simile - a figure of speech in which two unlike things are compared as if they are alike. This writing technique (known as a literary device) makes our writing more colourful and more beautiful.

Can you think of some similes of your own? I have created one:

Life, like chocolate, is sometimes bitter and sometimes sweet.

Try writing your own!
