I'm reading Philip Yancey's Reaching for the Invisible God and enjoying its beautiful language. Observing how poor people tend to accept God more readily than rich people do, Yancey writes:
Grace, like water, flows to the lowest part.
Although it's not an explanation, it's a nice description of 'grace' using a simile - a figure of speech in which two unlike things are compared as if they are alike. This writing technique (known as a literary device) makes our writing more colourful and more beautiful.
Can you think of some similes of your own? I have created one:
